MASOOD KHAN, PRESIDENT OF AZAD JAMMU AND KASHMIR AND FORMER AMBASSADOR OF PAKISTAN TO CHINA,

ON THE TENTH ANNIVERSARY OF THE HONDER COLLEGE

I convey my heartiest felicitations to the Honder College of Inner Mongolia Normal University on its tenth anniversary. This is a great occasion for the College, its leadership, its able faculty and talented students. After its development spanning a decade, the College is poised to move to new heights. I wish the College more development  and success in the years to come.

The Honder College is a great institution. The infrastructure and buildings of the college are strikingly aesthetic, but even more impressive is the quality education that it imparts in diverse  disciplines including English, tourism management, pre-primary education, engineering management, journalism and artistic designing.

The college equips students  with practical skills and instills in them the spirit of initiative. The teaching faculty and the administrative staff include some of the finest professionals  in the field. The college has become a symbol of quality, drive and dynamism in Inner Mongolia and, in fact, the whole of China.

For all the accomplishments of the Honder College, I pay tribute to its very able, resourceful and dynamic President, Mr. Zhou Shuchun. He is a man of great vision who has championed the  cause of quality education not only in China but has also reached out to prestigious educational institutions in Pakistan to build partnerships. Over the years, thanks to his efforts, Honder College has worked closely with Pakistan’s National Univesity of Modern Languages, Roots Millennium Schools, and Aitchison College to build bridges and partnerships.

I am glad to learn that the eminent educationist,  thought leader and  former Principal Aitchison  College Lahore, Mr. Faqir Aijazuddin,  will attend the 10th anniversary celebrations of the college. His famous book “From a Head, through a Head, to a Head”, which explains the constructive role played by Pakistan in the Sino-US rapprochement in the early 1970s, has been translated by a Honder College academic  in Chinese and has been  published recently. Thank you Honder College for doing this.

I can never forget my visit to the Honder College in 2010, when all of its  6,000 students (now their number has increased to more than 10,000) came out of their class rooms to welcome and greet me. I was deeply touched. At that time, I was the Ambassador of Pakistan to China and the occasion of my visit was that  the President, faculty and students of the College had decided to help after devastating floods had hit large parts of Pakistan. They all raised funds and generously helped Pakistan in a difficult hour. The people of Pakistan would never forget this act of kindness.

This was the beginning of a strong relationship. In the following years, the Honder College faculty members came to Pakistan to teach and scores of Pakistan students enrolled in the Honder College.

The Honder College has honoured Pakistan; and honoured me personally. They established a Masood Khan Library after my name; and they have been giving Masood Scholarships. So I have a strong, unbreakable bond with the Honder College.

On this occasion, I also want to acknowledge the active role played by Ms. Shirley, Manager Foreign Affairs Office,  in maintaining and sustaining close ties of the College with Pakistan. She is a great asset for the College.

Once again, I congratulate the Honder College on its singular achievements under the leadership of President ZhouYushu and wish it a bright future.

在鴻德學院建校十周年之際，請允許我向內蒙古師范大學鴻德學院表達我最衷心的祝愿以及最誠摯的問候。十年的砥礪前行，艱苦創業，才有了鴻德學院今天的成就。在周院長及全院師生的共同努力下，我相信鴻德學院的明天會更加輝煌。

鴻德學院是一所軟硬件實力都很強的大學。學院的基礎設施和校園建設別具一格，但更令人印象深刻的是特色專業和優勢學科的建設：英語、旅游管理、學前教育、工程管理、新聞和藝術設計等多門學科。

學院注重培養學生的實踐技能，并激勵他們不斷進取。師資隊伍和管理人員都是該領域最優秀的專業人才。鴻德學院已經成為內蒙古乃至整個中國大學的質量、動力和活力的象征。

對于鴻德學院的所有成就，首先向足智多謀、充滿活力、知識淵博的院長周玉樹先生致敬。他視野開闊，國際化意識強烈，不僅立足于中國發展教育事業，而且與巴基斯坦著名的教育機構建立了伙伴關系。多年來，由于他的不斷努力，鴻德學院與巴基斯坦國立現代語言大學、阿奇森學院、ROOT 學校等優質教育機構密切聯系，建立了友好合作關系。

我很高興地獲悉：杰出的教育家、思想領袖，前校長阿奇森學院拉合爾校長法齊爾·艾賈祖丁先生將參加該學院的10周年慶祝活動。他的名著《首腦之間》解釋了20世紀70年代初巴基斯坦在中美和解中發揮的建設性作用。該書由鴻德學院唐俊老師翻譯成中文，并在近期出版。

2010年，我首次訪問鴻德學院的經歷讓我終生難忘，當時學校6000名學生(現在已增加到10000多人)都從教室里走出來迎接我。我深深被大家對巴基斯坦的友好所感動。當時，學院院長、教職員工和學生為在巴基斯坦遭受洪災的人民提供幫助，他們在巴基斯坦最困難的時候籌集資金，慷慨解囊。我作為巴基斯坦駐華大使前往現場接受捐贈，把他們對巴基斯坦人民的友誼及時傳遞，巴基斯坦人民永遠不會忘記這一善舉。

在隨后的幾年里，鴻德學院與巴基斯坦的交往不斷深化，學院的教職員工來到巴基斯坦任教，數十名巴基斯坦學生在鴻德學院學習漢語。

鴻德學院給了巴基斯坦很高的禮遇，也給了我本人很高的禮遇。他們以我的名字命名了“馬蘇德館”，并設立“馬蘇德獎學金”。因此，我和鴻德學院有著深厚的難以割舍的友誼。

在此，我還要感謝外事辦史麗珍女士在維持學院與巴基斯坦的密切關系方面發揮的積極作用。她是這所大學的寶貴財富。

我再次祝賀鴻德學院在周玉樹院長領導下取得的更大的成就，再創輝煌。
